CREIGHTON — Track athletes from Antelope County ventured north to Creighton to take part in the Antelope County Invite Thursday. Elgin Public-Pope John athletes won five events in the boys competition and two in the girls.
Leading the way was Ryan Pelster. The Wolfpack’s long-distance runner won three events (800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs). He set a new school record in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:05.1. Teammate Blake Schrage won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles.
On the girls side, Taylor Schumacher claimed gold in the pole vault. Sophomore Jenna Parks won the 1600 meter run.
“We were not up to full strength for this meet do to some injuries and kids participating in State FFA however the kids competed very well, we had many athletes put up personal bests in their events,” said Wolfpack Track Coach Wes Prater. “Ryan Pelster again broke the Wolfpack 1600 meter record and the Antelope County Record with his 5:05.1 mile time. The kids continue to work hard both at practice and meets.”
