The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall will be coming to Elgin as part of the Q125 celebration in June.
Legion Commander Gary Hoefer made the announcement to members of the Elgin City Council Monday night during a brief presentation.
Tentative plans call for The Moving Wall to be set up on the lot behind Elgin Public Library and The Homestead.
The area, he said, meets the requirements established by the owners of The Moving Wall. Among the requirements was to have access to public restrooms, electricity available, a shaded area where people can go to reflect, etc.
Hoefer said Legion and VFW members had met last month and unanimously selected the area as the best site for The Moving Wall.
Hoefer asked for the City’s assistance with extending a culvert on the east end of the property which would allow for parking.
