More than 70 persons attended the St. Boniface Alumni Banquet held Saturday night at the KC Hall.
Honored classes were 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966.
Fr. Ross Burkhalter was recognized and thanked for his years at St. Boniface.
A crucifix made by Dennis Wiehn from reclaimed wood from St. Boniface School was won by Sharon Lilli from Elgin.
The dinner catered by Jodine Meis.
Marilyn Sehi prepared the table decorations which she created from a potted plant her family had received at the time of her mother’s (Darlene Heithoff Schindler) death. Darlene had always enjoyed the banquets so that was such a nice memento of her.
Scholarship winners were:
• Two St. Boniface Alumni Scholarship winners: Brooklyn and Logan Starman, children of Kayla Brewer
• In memory of Lawrence Getzfred: Skyler and Brooklyn Meis, daughters of Eric and Brenda Meis
• In Memory of Mark Schindler: Anna Dworak, daughter of Ben and Amanda Dworak
• In Memory of Vet and Bernice Josten: the Josh and Tonya Kallhoff Family
• The Delbert Salber Scholarships to a 6th grader going into Pope John: Emily Mlnarik and Kaylee Ramold
At the annual meeting following dinner, the outcome was reported of a recent vote cast by the living alumni of St. Boniface High School regarding the future of the alumni banquets. There had been discussion over recent years of perhaps discontinuing the banquets due to an aging and diminishing alumni which affects numbers attending as well as finding a committee to plan and host the event.
All living alumni with addresses available at the school were sent a ballot and the result was that the traditional style of alumni banquet as we have known it will end after the last graduating class of 1967 celebrates their 50th reunion in 2017.
The remainder of the evening was spent visiting and socializing.
