Mass of a Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE for Raymond F. Kalvelage of Neligh. Kalvelage, 93, passed away on May 15, 2010 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh.
Raymond Frank Kalvelage, son of Frank and Anna (Baum) Kalvelage, was born January 17, 1917 at Elgin, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church, attended St. Boniface Grade School and graduated from St. Boniface High School. He spent some time working on a cattle ranch near Stuart, NE. He began working with his father as a carpenter in the Elgin area until entering the United States Army in August 1942. Raymond served in WWII as a demolition/explosives instructor and later helped build Kue Army Hospital on Okinawa was honorably discharged in January 1946.
He was united in marriage to Maxine Reiniger in October 1943 at Spokane, WA. They made their home in Spokane, WA and moved back to Elgin, NE in 1959 when Raymond began working at Ward’s Appliances as an electrician, sheet metal worker, furnace installer and appliance repairman.
In 1976, he was united in marriage to Maxine Lee at Neligh, NE. The couple made their home in Neligh, Aurora and Clearwater before returning to Neligh and entering The Willows in 2008. They enjoyed traveling together and took many vacations including a trip to Australia and a cruise to Alaska.
Raymond was an avid bowler, enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially spending time gardening.
He is survived by his wife Maxine of Neligh, NE; five children: John Kalvelage and wife Cathy of Thousand Oaks, CA; Rayann Hale and husband Arthur of 29 Palms, CA; Max Donaldson-Kalvelage of Fresno, CA; Jane Motel and husband Vincent of Norco, CA; Paul Donaldson-Kalvelage of Sacramento, CA.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Steven; 10 siblings: Joseph, Anne, Alphons, Fred, Herman, John, Eleinor, Richard, Alvis “Dutch”, Robert.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE, with Rev. Dan Andrews officiating and burial in the parish cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.huffmanlevander.com.
