Oral A. Cleveland, 89 formerly of Clearwater, NE died Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Norfolk Veteran’s home in Norfolk, NE. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 2. 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Clearwater, NE, with Rev. Carroll Plisek officiating and burial in the Orchard Cemetery.
Oral Adean Cleveland, daughter of Andrew and Millie (Butterfield) Jackson was born March 8, 1920 at Venus, NE. She was the eldest of seven children. She attended rural grade school, graduated from Creighton High School, and received her teaching certificate from Wayne State College. She moved to Norfolk to work and returned home to help care for her siblings after the death of her mother. She taught school for a period of time before and after she was married.
Oral married Eugene Virgil Sorensen and he was killed 6 months later in World War II.
On March 27, 1948, she was united in marriage to Archie Cleveland. The couple made their home north of Orchard near Oakview Park and in 1959 moved to a farm southwest of Ewing, NE. They farmed there until retirement in 1986 when they moved to Clearwater, NE. In September 2000, they moved to The Homestead Assisted Living in Norfolk, NE and then to the Norfolk Veterans Home in 2002.
Oral was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Clearwater, NE.
She is survived by two sons and wives: Dennis Cleveland and wife Phyllis of Ewing, NE ; Darrell Cleveland and wife Bev of Norfolk, NE; six grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister: Ardith Goochey of Ainsworth, NE; five sisters-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law; along with other relative and friends.
Oral was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sisters: Velda Atkinson and Irene Walton; three brothers: Delaine, Elvin and Dale Jackson
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary in Clearwater. NE.
