A man with ties to Northeast Nebraska is now serving as chief deputy of the Antelope County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Robert Moore recently hired Steve Mills, 56, to serve in that capacity.

He stopped at The Elgin Review office last week.

Having served in law enforcement in other communities, he comes to Antelope County after working corporate investigations for FedEx in Chicago and St. Louis for a combined 15 years. He said with FedEx, his investigative work included not only  package loss but also workplace violence. “It was a little bit of everything,” Mills said.

He said he’s wanted to get back to Nebraska for quite some time.
