Five wrestlers from Elgin Public-Pope John will compete this weekend at the NSAA State Wrestling Tournament.
Action will get underway Thursday at the Qwest Center in Omaha. The tournament will conclude Saturday afternoon will the finals being televised on ETV.
First on the mats for the Wolfpack will be Sebastian Janssen. A senior, he will wrestle in the 125-pound class. His opponent in the opening round will be Ben Fox of Dundy County-Stratton. Janssen posted a 20-9 mark this season. Fox enters the tournament with a record of 19-4.
Competing in the 130-pound weight class, senior Derek Henn will face Sutton’s Derek Bailey in a first round matchup. Henn has posted a 32-10 record this season. Bailey has a 32-11 record.
A senior, Nathan Anderson will compete in the 135-pound weight class. His opening round opponent will be Jacob Brennemann of Medicine Valley. Anderson enters the tournament with a 39-3 record while Brennemann, a junior, has a 23-8 mark.
Anthony Hemenway, competing in the 140-pound class, will open against Charis Mader of Crawford. A senior, Hemenway enters the state tournament with a 35-8 record. Mader comes into the match with a 20-10 mark.
Junior Jared Seier, competing in the 189-pound class, will face Dalton Meier of Elm Creek in the opening round. Heading into the match, Seier has a 26-10 record. Meier posts a 6-1 record.
