ELGIN — On a soggy Saturday night the Pope John Crusaders sliced through Cedar Rapids to post a 43 to 8 victory.
Returning to their winning ways after back-to-back losses, the Crusaders rode the hot hand of quarterback Josh Beckman who tossed three touchdown passes in the first half.

Pope John (4-2) will be at home Friday night to face Spalding/Spalding Academy. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.

ELGIN — It’s not over until the last point is played.
That’s what fans of Lady Crusaders’ volleyball learned Saturday evening as Pope John defeated Cedar Rapids 25-13, 25-20, 24-26, 20-25 and 15-6. The win improves their record to 14-5.
ELGIN — For the second time in less than a week, Pope John’s Lady Crusaders bested Elgin High in volleyball. Competing at the Pope John Triangular Tuesday night, the Lady Crusaders posted a 25-16 and 25-20 victory over the Lady Eagles. Other Results, O’Neill St. Mary’s defeated the Lady Eagles 25-16 and 25-21 in their other match at the triangular. Pope John defeated St. Mary’s by the scores of 25-17 and 25-8.

ELGIN — Eleven months ago, Chambers handed Elgin one of its’ most heartbreaking losses ever, losing at the Class D-2 championship game in Lincoln.
On Friday night the Eagles pounded Chambers 50 to 6, dealing the Coyotes a serious blow towards returning to the playoffs this year.

ELGIN — West Boyd had Elgin’s number Thursday night as the Lady Eagles lost 14-25, 25-14, 8-25 and 24-26. The loss dropped Elgin’s record to 5-10.
