The District #18 Board of Education will hold their regular monthly meeting on Thursday night, Jan. 15. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., will be held in the distance learning room.
As part of the reorganizational meeting which will occupy the first half of the meeting, the board will make legal designations for bank, newspaper, bus inspector, official financial agent and non-discrimination officer. According to the school’s website, it’s possible there could be a change made in the school’s attorney.
Prior to that, longtime EPS instructor Doug Jones will be appointed to the board to serve a two-year term as there were no candidates to fill the position when the general election was held.
Once Jones takes the oath of office, the six-member board will be asked to act on just one “action” item — to accept/reject bid or bids for new gymnasium flooring. At the December meeting, the board asked Superintendent Dan Polk to ask for bids to replace the floor which was installed when the gymnasium was constructed back in the 1970s. Should the board accept a bid, the new gym floor would be installed prior to the start of the 2015/16 school year.
Also during the meeting, Polk will report to board members on the following:
• no negotiated agreement to approve between the school district and the Elgin Education Association since the district is in the second year of a two-year pact
• Review board self-evaluation and superintendent’s evaluation
* Review a schedule and agenda for the annual board retreat to be held later this month
