One more step in the transformation of the Elgin High School gymnasium into one of the best facilities in the NVC took place Monday night.
At a special meeting of the District #18 Board of Education, they voted 6 to 0 to replace the out-dated scoreboards with new ones.
The board approved the expenditure of more than $9,340 for the scoreboards, including installation, which will be placed in the same location as the old ones. Principal Jimmy Feeney III said the new scoreboards, constructed by Daktronics, will be slightly bigger, wider than the ones currently in use.
The new scoreboards will feature wireless technology. With two controllers which can be operated from anywhere inside the gymnasium, the scoreboards should be able to operate separately for wrestling tournaments.
Feeney said sponsors can be added to the scoreboard at a later date, if the school board chooses to pursue that option.
