A surprise announcement – to many – will have Elgin’s District #18 Board of Education searching for a new superintendent.
Superintendent Dan Polk announced early Saturday that he will be turning down the recent offer of a two-year extension to his contract and will be taking an early retirement effective this school year.
Polk has been superintendent since the 2011-12 school year.
