Assessor Recall Petitions Being Verified

More than 100 petitions were delivered Friday to Antelope County Clerk Carolyn Pedersen seeking the recall of County Assessor Julie A. Harrison. If the number of necessary signatures are verified (the number being 796, 35 percent of the votes cast in the last assessor’s election), Pedersen said her office will write a letter to Harrison establishing the fact and outlining future steps which will need to be taken as part of the recall process.

Upon notification, Harrison would then have five days to resign. If she does not resign at that time, Pedersen said the matter will then go to the Antelope County Board of Supervisors who would then schedule a special recall election to be held no later than 45 days. Were that to happen, a special election would likely be held sometime between December 15 and January 1 to resolve the matter.
