On Tuesday, May 29, the Elgin 14 & Under girls softball team traveled to O’Neill and came up on the short end of a 22 to 8 score. Getting hits for Elgin were Jordan Mescher with two singles, and Morgan Childers, Taylor Schumacher and Liz Selting with a single each. Jordan Mescher handled the pitching duties for Elgin, walking nine and striking out two.
Then, on Thursday, May 31, Elgin gained its first win of the season by topping Neligh 9 to 8. Taylor Schumacher had two singles in the game. Jordan Mescher again handled the pitching for Elgin, walking eight and striking out two. After regulation, an extra inning was played. Elgin outscored Neligh 15 to 4.
Morgan Childers and Amy Nelson both had singles in the game. Baylie Schiltmeyer pitched in the extra inning, walking two and striking out one.
On Friday, June 1, Elgin hosted Plainview and suffered a 13 to 8 loss. The hit for Elgin was a single by Liz Selting. Baylie Schiltmeyer started on the mound. She walked six and struck out five. Jordan Mescher finished the pitching for Elgin, giving up five walks. Next action for Elgin will be, June 7, at O’Neill.
