Most residents of Elgin, along with the majority in the state of Nebraska, are staying indoors today courtesy of an old-fashioned blizzard. With a Snow Emergency in effect for the town, residents are reminded to keep all vehicles off the streets. This will enable city crews to get streets cleared more easily. Businesses, once this storm subsides, you have five hours to get your sidewalks cleared off for the public. Residents, you are given 24 hours to clear your sidewalks.
This unfortunate traveler (no front plate and back license plate is covered with snow) found visibility so bad he stopped in the middle of the highway in downtown Elgin to get out of his car and use his hands to clear his front windshield. Reports are that there are pockets of zero visibility on the highways. Really think before you travel anywhere today. E-R photo
