The funeral service for Mary Sprout was held Monday, January 28,2019, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, Mn., with Father John Wilmot officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City.
Mary Alice Sprout, 90, of Lake City, passed away at The Bluff’s of Lake City on Tuesday morning, January 22, 2019, where she has resided since 2015.
She was born August 30, 1928 in Elgin, Nebraska to Joseph and Inez (Sullivan) Meis. Mary attended school in Elgin, Nebraska, graduating in 1947.
On October 13, 1947 she married Leland Sprout at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, Nebraska.
The Sprout’s farmed near Elgin, Nebraska until 1958 when they moved to rural Lake City, MN and farmed until retiring in 1975. They moved back to Nebraska until 1982 when they moved back to Lake City.
Mary was employed by Coast-to-Coast in Lake City and also cooked at the Villa Maria in Frontenac for many years.
She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards, and attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church and participated in many Bible Studies.
Mary never met a stranger or found a dessert she didn’t like.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Diane (Daniel) Richardson of Lake City, Linda (Kurt) Blair of Elgin, NE, Jolene (Tim) Peterson of Albertville, sons, Dale (Dodie) Sprout of Plymouth, Don (Marie) Sprout of Leesburg, FL, Frank (Cindy) Sprout of Vining, MN, Jim (Marcia) Sprout and Ed (Cate) Sprout both of Lake City; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas Meis of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 grandson, 1 great-grandson, and 2 daughter-in-law’s Bev Sprout and Karen Sprout.
Memorials are preferred to Donor’s Choice.
