More than 200 community volunteers and leaders celebrated their efforts at successfully promoting and encouraging economic and community development as part of the 45th annual Nebraska Community Improvement Program (NCIP) awards banquet held Nov. 14 in Kearney. The event capped the inaugural Governor’s Conference on Rural Development.
The community of Petersburg entered two nominations in the Special Awards competition. Judges awarded Petersburg first place in the categories of:
• Business Assistance and Development — “Economic Development and Growth for Petersburg”
• Technology, Infrastructure and Planning — “Improvement of water, sewer and streets”
“We were excited to bring home a first place award in both categories,” said Bernie Cunningham.
