An early morning, single vehicle accident sent the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) and Rescue out into the countryside last Friday.
According to Antelope County Sheriff Bob Moore, the EVFD/Rescue responded to a 6:33 a.m. call about a cement truck in a ditch. The loaded truck was headed towards one of the wind turbine sites and was northbound on 525 Ave., located 4 miles south, 4 miles east and 1/4 mile north of Elgin.
Moore said the driver, Chad Allen Dafoe of Wilmar, MN reported that he came upon a portion of the county road which had been watered by an irrigation end gun. He lost control of the cement truck, owned by JME Companies of Monticello, MN (a sub-contractor for Blattner Energy, the general contractor working on the Prairie Breeze Energy, LLC wind project), in the mud and rolled into the west ditch.
