O’NEILL — Elgin Public-Pope John held Niobrara/Verdigre scoreless for more than nine minutes Tuesday night en route to a 60 to 38 victory in the semi-finals of the C2-8 Girls Subdistrict basketball tournament.
The Cougars led the Wolfpack 19 to 13 after one quarter. But, starting in the second quarter and continuing into the third quarter they were outscored 19 to zero to take a 32 to 19 lead.
In the second half the Wolfpack outscored the Cougars 28 to 19. By virtue of the victory the Wolfpack will play Plainview in the subdistrict final Thursday night at 7 p.m. Plainview defeated West Holt 61 to 48 in the other semi-final game.
