Superintendent Candidates Was Three, Now Two

The District #18 Board of Education Wednesday afternoon began the interview phase in their search for a new superintendent. On that day, all six board members, led by Board President Steve Heithoff, conducted a formal interview with Jeffrey Walburn, superintendent at Silver Lake Public Schools. Walburn answered questions for approximately two hours before he was excused as the school board then went into executive session to discuss the candidate.

Earlier in the day, Heithoff said one candidate for the position withdrew his name. He said Brent Christensen of Chappell currently elementary/high school principal at Creek Valley Schools, asked to have his name withdrawn from consideration.

On Thursday afternoon the board was scheduled to interview Steve Dennis who currently serves as elementary principal at Ord Public Schools.

Not on the list of finalists is current District #18 Interim Superintendent Lee Hall who was hired last summer to perform the duties of superintendent during the absence of Dr. Gayla Fredrickson who was on medical leave. When Fredrickson resigned, Hall’s contract was extended till the end of June 2009.

On Friday the school board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. to discuss the applicants and move the process along. Heithoff recently said it’s the board’s intention to fill the superintendent’s position by the end of February. Whoever is hired, their first day on the job would be July 1, 2009.
