The construction phase for a fiber-optic network in Elgin has been completed.
Klint Arnold of Stealth Broadband, the company bringing fiber-optic service to here, told the Elgin City Council last week the next phase is installation into homes.
That phase is now underway.
“We’ll be hitting it pretty hard the next few weeks,” he said. “We’re fired up. If you see anything, notice anything, let us know.” Arnold added that installation into homes and businesses will be “pretty easy, pretty quick.”

Hearings — Two public hearings were held. The first was for the City’s One & Six Year Street Plan.
City Engineer John Zwingman said the one-year plan will focus on maintenance of existing streets. The six-year plan, he said, is made up of a number of street projects (nine) which, should funds become available or the council wishes to pursue, are years away. He said the cost of concrete has doubled over the past six years. Turn to this week’s paper to read the complete story.
