The Elgin Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) has kicked off its 2015 fundraising campaign. Letters were mailed last week to citizens throughout the area, asking for their help to purchase some much-needed items.
In the past year, thanks to the generous donations from the public, the department was able to update one pumper/fast attack apparatus plus other equipment including Personal Protective Equipment, hoses and nozzles.
The EVFD kept busy over the past year on calls and in training. The forty members combined their time to provide nearly 300 hours (298) on fire and emergency calls. For work nights and practices, the department gave 198 hours to the community along with 8 hours of storm watching.
