Public hearings will precede the regular meeting of the District #18 Board of Education to be held Wednesday night, Sept. 12.
A public hearing on the tax asking for the Fiscal Year 2012-2013 budget will begin at 7 p.m. in the distance learning room at the high school. At 7:15 p.m., a public hearing on setting the levy for the proposed budget will be held.
The school district is seeking proposed property tax request of $2,423,043.26 for the general fund and $131,313.13 for the special building fund. Together, the total comes to $2,554,356.39. To raise those tax dollars, the school board will be seeking a tax levy of 0.655000 for the general fund and 0.035500 for the special building fund. The combined levy for the school district would be 0.690500.
One year ago, the general fund tax asking was more than $2.27 million and just over $121,000 for the special building fund. Combined, the total tax asking was $2,391,431.29. Together, the total proposed tax levy for 2011-2012 was 0.713359.
The regular meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Five action items are on the agenda for the meeting. They are:
• Approve the FY 2012-2013 budget
• Approve the tax request resolution
• Approve the use of a new school song for co-op activities
• Approve vehicles as surplus property
• Approve the purchase of a new scoreboard (via insurance or activity funds)
Also during the meeting there will be reports from Superintendent Dan Polk and K-12 Principal Adam Patrick as well as standing committees.
