A Ewing man was charged with two counts of first-degree murder Tuesday afternoon in connection with a double homicide which occurred sometime late Friday night east of Ewing.
Matthew Hinr-ichsen, 33, was charged in the deaths of ex-girlfriend Victoria D. Lee, 25 of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and Gabino A. Vargas, 30, formerly from Omaha. In addition to the murder charges, Hinrichsen was also charged with two counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony, and arson in the first degree. All five charges against Hinrichsen are felonies.
On Tuesday, Judge Donna Farrell-Taylor ordered no bond set, meaning Hinrichsen will continue to be held at the Madison County Jail. His next court hearing will be Dec. 18 at 1:15 p.m. He is being represented in court by the Commission of Public Advocacy along with public defender Carney Law Office. Present at the hearing was Martin Klein of the Carney Law Office. Representing the prosecution was County Attorney Joe Abler as well as attorneys from the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office.
