At this morning’s (August 7, 2012) regular supervisors meeting, the board voted 5-2 in favor of building a new 30-bed jail facility for the county. Voting against the new jail facility were Harlan Brandt and Merlin Bolling.
The condition of the current jail has been a topic of discussion for quite some time now. Ultimately, as some meeting attendees have pointed out, it came down to building the county’s own jail or – by “farming out” detainees to area facilities and paying those housing fees – helping another county build their own jail.
