ELGIN — One could understand Thursday night if someone changed the name of the Wolfpack volleyball team to the bulldozers.
Like the equipment which knocks down houses, the Wolfpack knocked down the Spartans of Boyd County 25-12, 25-8 and 25-13.
The Spartans didn’t have a chance as the Wolfpack dominated at the net and from the service line to remain unbeaten.
Tied 10-all in the first game, EPPJ outscored the Spartans 15 to 2 to gain the upper hand.
Three kills from Elizabeth Selting, a kill and a solo block from Amy Nelson and another kill from Paige Meis led the way. Nelson closed out the first game with an ace serve.
In Game Two, the Wolfpack jumped out to a 12 to 3 lead. Calli Krebs had six service points in a row and she received help from Nicki Payne with a kill at the net while Selting and Nelson continued their attacks.
Wemhoff had two aces in a six-point run to close out the game, aided by a kill from Grace Henn.
Game Three featured libero Jordan Mescher serving seven consecutive points. Payne and Meis teamed up for a stuff block towards the end of the game. Junior Lydia Behnk came off the bench to hammer home the Wolfpack’s final kill of the game, coming on match point.
For the match, the Wolfpack recorded 33 kills as they were 53 of 66 in attacks. Selting led the way with 11 kills and she had plenty of help. Nelson produced seven, Meis added six, Henn notched five, Nicki Payne had two while Mescher and Behnk each had one.
From the service line the Wolfpack were equally effective as they recorded nine ace serves. Baylee Wemhoff led the way with four, Mescher had two, Nelson, Selting and Krebs each had one. They were 66 of 72 serving (91.7 percent).
Nelson led the team with five solo blocks in the match, Meis and Selting each had two, Payne and BayleeWemhoff each had one.
Wemhoff, Krebs and Mescher tied for the team-high in digs with three-apiece.
EPPJ recorded 28 set assists in the match, led by Baylee Wemhoff with 18, Payne had seven and Ally Wemhoff recorded 3.
Mescher led the Wolfpack in serve receive with 12, Selting had seven.
The victory boosted the Wolfpack’s record to 5-0 heading into the Howells/Dodge Tournament.
