“It’s another draw to our community”. “(We’ve) always been a supporter of family, children and youth programs.”
Those words, spoken by American Legion Post 229 Commander Gary Hoefer and VFW Post 5816 Commander LeRoy Kerkman, sum up the sentiments of each organization’s membership. Both posts made significant donations to the Elgin Swimming Pool Renovation Project recently. Each receives memorials over the years which they use to benefit the organization and the community as a whole. The pool donations were made from various funds received by the posts. Combined, $25,000 was donated.
“It’s one way to bring people here,” said Hoefer about the pool. Both men continued on to reminisce about their younger years spent at the city pool.
