Two Wolfpack Golfers Qualify For State

EWING — Wolfpack golfers had to contend with something they had seldom seen during the season on Monday when they competed at the Class D-3 District Golf Tournament held at Summerland Golf Course.

Having played virtually the whole season in bad conditions, Monday was warm, sunny and little wind to contend with. However, the Wolfpack were unable to take advantage of the conditions as they finished fifth in the team competition.

Creighton, led by Andrew Largen’s 84, posted a team score of 341 to win the tournament. Second was Ewing at 354 and third was Niobrara/Verdigre at 360. Creighton, Ewing and Niobrara/Verdigre will all advance to the Class D State Golf Tournament to be played in North Platte next week.

Neligh-Oakdale finished fourth at 363 followed by Elgin Public-Pope John at 365. Other team scores were West Boyd 371, North Central 378, Randolph 397, Clearwater/Orchard 403, Hartington 410, Osmond 415, and CWC 442.

No team scores were posted for Elkhorn Valley, Santee and Stuart.

Medalist at the tournament was Michael Hynes of Ewing. The junior shot an 18-hole score of 79.

The Wolfpack had two golfers qualify for the state tournament based on their individual scores. Nick Heithoff finished eighth with an 87. Teammate Andrew Heithoff tied for 10th with an 89 to earn a trip to state.

Other Wolfpack scores were Zachary Baker 94, Evan Parks 95 and Tyler Childers 104.
