Wolfpack Netters Top Creighton

CREIGHTON — Elgin Public-Pope John claimed their seventh victory of the season on Thursday night.
Playing at Creighton, they beat the Bulldogs in four games by the scores of 27-25, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-14.
After winning the first two games, the Wolfpack saw Creighton climb back into the match by winning the third game. However, in the fourth game, the Wolfpack’s strong attack proved too much for the Bulldogs to overcome.
Just how strong were the Wolfpack at the net? The team produced 40 kills at the net, led by junior Jenna Parks with 14. Sophomore Liz Selting added 11 followed by Terri Seier eight, Hayley Stamp three, Nikki Beckman and Taylor Schumacher each had two kills.
EPPJ (7-2) took advantage of Creighton’s inconsistent serve receive, producing nine ace serves. Selting and Parks each had three ace serves, Baylee Wemhoff added two and Jordan Mescher contributed one. The Wolfpack were 83 of 88 from the service line.
Mescher led the team in serve receive with 15, Sharla Schindler had 14 and Schumacher had six.
Schumacher led the team in digs with 10, Selting and Parks each had nine, Wemhoff seven, Schindler six, and Mescher five.
The Wolfpack recorded 34 set assists in the match, led by Wemhoff with 14 and Parks with 13.
Another telling statistic was solo blocks. The Wolfpack had nine, led by Seier with five, Parks had two, Selting and Stamp one apiece.
The victory boosts their season record to 7-2.
