KEARNEY — Elgin Public-Pope John golfers found the Kearney Country Club course a challenge at the Class C State Golf Tournament.
The Wolfpack finished ninth out of 15 teams competing in the tournament. Winning the team title was Sutton with a two-day score of 637 followed by kearney Catholic and Plainview 638, Gibbon 660, Bishop Neumann 669, Hartington Cedar Catholic 674, Elmwood-Murdock 680, Kimball 680, EPPJ 693, Valentine 695, Logan View 701, North Platte St. Pat’s 705, Milford 711, Norfolk Catholic 716 and Wisner-Pilger 730.
Medalist was Mitchell Klooz who fished with a 36-hole score of 142. Par is 71 over 18 holes
Wolfpack scores were Nick Heithoff (84-82) 166, Kyle Heithoff (85-88) 173, Andrew Heithoff (89-84) 173, Evan Parks (89-96) 185 and Tyler Childers (96-92) 188.
First Round
Nick Heithoff led the Wolfpack with an 84 (+13) after the first round was completed Tuesday afternoon.
Kyle Heithoff was just one shot behind Nick as he shot 85 (+14) on the par 71 course.
Other Wolfpack scores after the first round were Andrew Heithoff 89 (+18), Tyler Childers 96 (+25) and senior Evan Parks came in with a score of 89 (+18).
Leader in the clubhouse after the first round was Mitchell Klooz of Plainview who finished the opening with a three-under score of 68.
