Wolfpack Girls Win Burwell Tourney

BURWELL — Domination.

That word describes the championship game of the Burwell Holiday Tournament which the Elgin Public-Pope John Wolfpack girls won by defeating Cedar Rapids 56 to 14.

From the opening tip-off, the Wolfpack was in control of the game as the Lady Tigers never led in the contest between the two schools.

“We had a couple of goals going into this tournament,” Coach Randy Eisenhauer said.  “One was to win it and the other was to improve on defense.  I thought the team acheived both of them as we did an excellent job on the defensive side as we gave up an average of 20.5 points.  We did not shoot well for both games so our defense had to step up and they did.  They shut down both teams in all categories and had a very productive week.”

Senior Kasi Stoltz sparked a 20-point first quarter for the Wolfpack. She made three three-point shots to help stake EPPJ an 11 to 3 lead. She finished the quarter with 11 points. For the game, she led all scorers with 19 points.
