Wolfpack Girls Final Basketball Statistics Announced

ELGIN — The Elgin Public-Pope John girls basketball battled through injuries to compile a 12-12 season record.

Coach Randy Eisenhauer said the team had a very productive year.

“Going into the year we had a lot of questions to be answered and did not know what team we were going to be,” Eisenhauer said.

“As a coach I had a lot of expectations for these girls and they did an excellent job throughout the year to surpass these expectations. This group of girls should be proud of all their accomplishments they achieved this year.”

As a team, the Wolfpack averaged 39.5 points per game while opponents averaged just over 40 points per contest.

Among the notable achievements, the team finished third in the NVC Girls Basketball Tournament held last month.

Junior Lauren Selting led the team in scoring, averaging just over nine points per game, teammate Chelsi Mescher averaged 8.2 points per game. Both players will be back next season to give the Wolfpack a strong one-two punch on offense.

Four of the top five scorers on this year’s team will return next year.

Senior Jessica Heithoff led the team in three-point field goals with 24,

Selting was second with 17 and teammate Carey Eischeid had 15.

Mescher led the team in rebounds, averaging just over seven per game. She and Heithoff tied for the team lead in assists with 28.

Heithoff, who set a single-game record with 13 steals, finished the season with a team-high 90.

Ashley Bode, playing center, had 15 blocks this year.
