Wolfpack girls crush Plainview Pirates

ELGIN — Down by nine points in the first half, Elgin Public-Pope John roared back in the second half to defeat Plainview 48 to 35 in girls basketball action.

Midway through the third quarter, EPPJ turned the tables on the Pirates. Trailing 27 to 19, Wolfpack senior Keyera Eisenhauer took over. In the span of just under a minute she single-handedly cut the Lady Pirates lead to two points with back-to-back-to-back baskets. 

After a two-pointer from Plainview’s Jordynn Frahm with 3:52 to go in the third quarter, they would score only one point over the next six minutes.

At the other end of the court, EPPJ scored 15 unanswered points to take a 41 to 30 lead with 3:52 left in the game. Leading the surge was junior Kate Furstenau with seven points, Ashlynne Charf had six points and Sara Bode added two.

From there the game was no longer in doubt as the Wolfpack defense held Plainview to just five points the rest of the game.

The first half was a different story as the Pirates put together a big second quarter. Leading by one at the start, they outscored the Wolfpack 17 to 11 behind the play of Abbie Kromarek and Taya Boyer. 

For the game, EPPJ (4-0) was led in scoring by Furstenau who made two treys and finished with 15 points. Charf had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with a team-high eight steals and five assists.
