Wolfpack Defeat Lady Warriors for First Victory

ELGIN — Seven players combined for 45 points Tuesday night to help lead the Wolfpack girls basketball team to a 45 to 26 victory over Neligh-Oakdale.

The game was lopsided from the opening tip as the Wolfpack (1-2) jumped out to a 20 to 1 lead and never looked back in posting their first victory of the young season.

One of the keys to the Wolfpack’s offensive prowess early in the game was their defensive pressure which forced the Lady Warriors into turnovers. In the first five minutes of the game, EPPJ caused several turnovers which they turned into points. Chelsi Mescher had four points and four other players scored two apiece to give the Wolfpack a 12 to one lead. Then, over the final three minutes of the quarter, EPPJ outscored Neligh-Oakdale eight to zero. Keying the surge was a three-point basket by Carey Eischeid.

Two free throws by Lauren Selting gave the Wolfpack a 22 to one advantage before Joselyn Lemm answered with a pair of free throws at the 6:10 mark.
