Willa Mae Borer, daughter of Henry and Clara (Bender) Chavanu, was born July 23, 1929 at Petersburg, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and attended school at St. John the Baptist School in Petersburg. She moved to Omaha as a young woman to help support her family, working as a nanny for several years before returning to Petersburg.
On June 19, 1949, Willa married Roman Edward Borer at Raeville, NE. The couple made their home on a farm east of Petersburg where Willa was a homemaker, helped on the farm and raised their six children. She began working at the Petersburg Lockers in the late 1960’s and continued until retiring in May of 1999. Following the death of her husband on July 31, 1978, she moved to a house in town and lived there until moving to Omaha to be with family in October 2012, and then Hickory Villa Assisted Living in October 2013.
She was a member of St. John’s Altar Society and member and officer of the Petersburg Senior Center. For many years, she was a member of a neighborhood card club and would join in monthly birthday get-togethers. She enjoyed volunteering at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, helping with Bingo.
Willa loved playing Bingo and cards. She was a hard worker and an excellent cook: especially her fried chicken. She was always there for her kids, and dearly loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.
She is survived by her children: Linda (Larry) Pedersen and Sharon (Dale) Noon, all of Omaha, NE; Roman Borer and friend Linda of Norfolk, NE; Debra (Cyril) Kerkman of Atkinson, NE; Eugene (Marcia) Borer of Ludowici, GA; Rodney (Anita) Borer of Norfolk, NE; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; two sisters: Verlene Heithoff of Beausejour, Canada; LaDonna Kaukver of Leshara, NE; one brother: Marvin (Arleen) Chavanu of Omaha, NE; brothers-in-law: Vic (Ann) Borer of Albion; Larry (Helen) Borer of Elgin; sisters-in-law: Bernie Spieker of Petersburg; Carol Borer of Indiana; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Willa was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roman; two sisters: Marian Chavanu and Lenore Bode; and two brothers: Ervin Chavanu and Larry Chavanu.
