SPENCER — Both members of the Wolfpack high school cross country team brought home medals Thursday afternoon from the Boyd County Invite. In the girls division, senior Samantha Stuhr posted a time of 24:21 over 5000 meters to earn a fifth place medal.
Winning the meet in dominating fashion was Niobrara’s Delani Runnels who placed first in a time of 20:36, more than three minutes faster than North Central’s Zoe Snyder who came in second at 23:41. Altogether, 18 girls competed in the race.
In the boys division, Wolfpack junior Matthew Kerkman posted a time of 20:33 to finish 12th. Winning the race was North Central’s Nate Frick with a time of 18:31. Placing second was Creighton’s Ethan Rohrer who crossed the finish line in 19:13. Altogether, 38 boys competed in the race.
Coach Shanda Schindler said she was pleased with the runners‘ efforts. “I’m happy with how they ran at Butte. The better weather definitely helped and the competition pushed them to step it up. They ran hard, competed well and even brought some medals home.”
