ELGIN — Playing on their home court for the first time this season, Pope John Central Catholic split a pair of matches Thursday night.

In the final match of the night, every player who suited up saw action on the floor as the Lady Crusaders defeated Rising City 25-7 and 25-12.

ELGIN — After nearly four quarters of head-banging, slobber-knocking football, the outcome of Saturday’s Pope John Central Catholic-Newman Grove football game rested on the toe of a German foreign exchange student.

With 13 seconds left on the clock, Bluejay Michael Woischnor 33-yard field goal fell just short of the crossbar, giving the Crusaders a 22 to 20 victory in a hard-fought game whose outcome will be felt for days to come.

ELGIN — For the first two sets, Elgin was the dominant team. However, in Thursday night’s best-of-five match, O’Neill St. Mary’s came storming back to win the match 22-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 15-5.

CHAMBERS — Competing at the Chambers Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Pope John Central Catholic dropped all three matches.
