WOOD RIVER — The Wolfpack’s dynamic duo of Libby Evans and Danny Smidt continued their strong start of the girls wrestling season, competing Saturday at the Wood River Girls Tournament.
Both freshmen wrestlers ended the day on the medal stand.
Evans placed first in the 190-pound weight class, winning two of her three matches. Evans improved her record to 5-2.
Smidt improved her record to 4-3, placing second in the 170-pound weight class by winning two of. Her three matches.
Individual results were:
170 — Quarterfinal – Dannyka Smidt (EPPJ) won by fall over Reese Chrastil (Grand Island Central Catholic Girls) 1-2 (Fall 0:55); Semifinal – Smidt won by decision over Megan Boyd (Northwest Girls) 6-2 (Dec 4-3); First Place Match – Lauren Sladek (St. Paul Girls) 5-0 won by fall over Smidt (Fall 3:47).
190 — Round 1 – Libby Evans (EPPJ) won by decision over Madison Holman (Franklin Girls) 4-3 (Dec 10-7); Round 2 – Leslie Garcia (Grand Island Central Catholic Girls) 1-2 won by fall over Evans (Fall 2:22); Round 3 – Evans won by fall over Mattilyn Stepanek (St. Paul Girls) 3-2 (Fall 1:31)
