School Board Begins Search for New Superintendent

Beginning now and for the next few weeks or months, the District #18 Board of Education fill be faced with the challenge of finding a new person to lead the school district.

On Thursday night, the board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Steve Dennis who will leave the school district when his contract expires at the end of June.

Dennis has served as superintendent since July 2009.

“I would like to thank the board for the opportunity to serve the district these past three years,” he said in his resignation letter.

“Also, I would like to thank the students, staff and community for their support. I have enjoyed my tenure with the Elgin Public Schools.”

Board President Laurie Waterbury thanked Dennis for his service to the school district and wished him good luck in the future.
