School board approves Selting as new teacher

Meeting last week, the District #18 Board of Education put their stamp on the hiring of a new teacher for the 2021-22 school year.
The board voted 5-0 (board member Luke Hinkle was absent) to approve the hiring of Elizabeth Selting as the new second grade teacher.
Miss Selting, a native of rural Elgin, was selected from 10 applicants. Principal Greg Wemhoff said three were interviewed for the position, all first year people.
Superintendent Mike Brockhaus described the hiring process as “tough” as administrators considered all three who interviewed for the position were “very good.”
Selting, the daughter of Lynn and Amy Selting, is a 2017 graduate of Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School. She did her student-teaching at Neligh-Oakdale Public School.
She will fill the position currently being held by Deb Beckman who will be retiring at the end of the current school year.
With one position filled, Brockhaus said the school district continues to advertise for a special ed staff position.
