Saturday win pushes EPPJ past .500 mark

WINSIDE — The Wolfpack boys basketball team pushed their season record above the .500 mark Saturday afternoon with a decisive 53 to 21 victory over Winside.
The Wildcats never did find an answer to the Wolfpack’s pressure defense which forced turnover after turnover in the one-sided game.
Managing just three points in the first quarter, the Wolfpack turned the game in their favor by outscoring the Wildcats 23 to 2 in the second quarter and led 26 to 11 at halftime. The highlight of the first half came when Austin Good got the crowd’s attention with a dish to Colton Wright who scored to push the lead to 24 to 9.
The second half was a mirror image of the first as EPPJ scored 27 points to just 10 for Winside.
The game offered Coach Michael Becker an opportunity let reserves see plenty of action as they played much of the third and fourth quarter.
Senior Jordan Lindgren came off the bench to score six points. Ethan Hinkle made both of his field goal attempts and finished with five points. Myles Kittelson and Layne Bullock each had two points.
Freshman Blake Henn led EPPJ with 13 points and tied for the team-high in rebounds with Paiton Hoefer (three apiece).
The Wolfpack’s record now stands at 8-7 heading into a home game Friday night against Atkinson West Holt. The game will be at St. Boniface Gymnasium.
