ELGIN — Leading by 18 points at one point in the first half, the Wolfpack lost their momentum and Niobrara-Verdigre rallied to win a thriller 54 to 53 Friday night.
Brianna Hamilton scored 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Cougars to the victory which was in doubt until the horn sounded, ending the game.
Trailing for most of the game, Niobrara-Verdigre pulled even at 30-all with 2:27 left in the third quarter, then went on an eight to three run to lead by five points entering the fourth quarter.
Ashley Bode made two free throws and Carey Eischeid made one at the start of the fourth quarter to cut the Cougars’ lead to 38 to 36.
