Melvina B. Schmitz, 88, formerly of Petersburg, NE passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 21, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE with Rev. Stan Schmit and Rev. Robert Schmitz officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation was held 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service.
Visitation resumed Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melvina Bernadine Seier, daughter of Anton and Rose (Mescher) Seier, was born December 18, 1923 at Petersburg, NE.
She grew up on a farm near Petersburg, was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and attended St. John’s School through the 8th Grade.
Melvina was united in marriage to Albert Schmitz on October 21, 1947 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg. They made their home on a farm near Petersburg where she was a homemaker and helped on the farm.
Following the death of her husband Albert in 1998, she moved to town in January 1999. In 2006, Melvina moved to the Samaritan Estates Assisted Living in Albion, NE and later entered the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in July 2008. It was there that she passed away on July 17, 2012 at 88 years of age.
Melvina was a member of St. John’s Christian Mothers, St. John’s Quilters and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg. She enjoyed quilting, baking, gardening, caring for her chickens and flowers, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters: Roselin (Dennis) Kile and Linda (Dale) Schintzler, both of Omaha, NE; four sons: Jim (Karen) Schmitz of Petersburg, NE; Jerry Schmitz of Curtis, NE; Bob (Terri) Schmitz of Albion, NE; Don Schmitz of Elgin, NE; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Rosie (Don) Pelster of Petersburg; Mary Ann Borer of Albion, NE; one brother: Joe (Connie) Seier of Petersburg, NE; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Seier and Lorraine Seier, both of Petersburg, NE.
Melvina was preceded in death by her husband Albert in October 1998; four brothers: Max, Tony, Delbert and Delmer Seier; one sister: Lorraine Seier; one brother-in-law: Ervin Borer.
