Lady Crusaders Place Third at NVC Tournament

O’NEILL — In recent times, Ewing has had Pope John’s number on the volleyball court. That all changed Friday night as the Lady Crusaders played a near flawless match in posting a four-set victory in the consolation finals of the NVC Conference Tournament.

After dropping the first set 25 to 21, the Lady Crusaders came back to win the next three sets by the scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-11.

Ewing seemed to have the upper hand in the early going. With the score tied seven-all in the first set, they went on a 10 to 3 run to take a commanding lead. Sierra Summers had tow kills at the net and an ace block to spark the run.

Pope John then made a run of their own to close within four points, 21 to 17. Jenna Beckman had three kills and teamed up with Lauren Selting for an ace block during the run. However, four points would be as close as Pope John would get as a kill by Amber Stanton closed out the first set.
