ELGIN — Having seen the horrors of war first-hand in Iraq, Elgin native Keith Heithoff gave the Veterans Day Address Wednesday morning at St. Boniface Gymnasium.
With students from Pope John, St. Boniface and Elgin Public Schools lining the bleachers on both sides, veterans, family members and others seated in folding chairs on the floor, all listened intently to Heithoff’s every word during a presentation which touched not only on today, but also on our country’s proud past and bright future.
A 28-year veteran in the U.S. Army, Heithoff spent 30 months in Iraq serving his country.
During his opening remarks, Heithoff recognized many of the veterans in the audience and pointed out Elgin’s proud heritage of men and women willing to serve in the military.
