George Leslie “Bud” Busteed, 76, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his home in Elgin following a lengthy, courageous battle with amyloidosis.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Elgin, with Rev. Glenn Loy, Rev. Joe Scahill and Bob Busteed officiating. Interment followed in the West Cedar Valley Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Monday at Huffman-Levander Funeral Home, Elgin.
Memorials are suggested to the family for a later designation.

George was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on September 29, 1942 to Harold W. and Ruth E. (Kinney) Busteed.  He attended Dist. #97, west of Elgin, through 8th grade, was a 1960 graduate of Elgin High School, and also attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  He then returned to Elgin to farm and raise livestock with his father.
On November 12, 1967, he married Lois Maxine Reinke at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Neligh. They had two children, Barbara Ann and Steven George.  She died on August 5, 1988.
On September 1, 1997, he married Carol Elizabeth (Pelster) Vanourney at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin.
He retired from farming in 2014 and started spending time during the winters in Florida. George was a very active, lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Elgin. He was baptized and confirmed there.
He became a member of the Army Reserve in 1963 and was honorably discharged on November 20, 1969.
George was a member of the American Legion Post #229.  He served on the boards of education for Dist. #97 and Elgin Public Schools, Antelope County Feeders Association board, Farm Bureau board, the Antelope County Farm Service Agency board, and the Farmers Coop Exchange board.
He was very supportive of the local American Red Cross Bloodmobile.  He was an avid reader, enjoyed boating, snow skiing, playing sports, meeting up with his Florida friends, attending Bible study, getting together with family members, and following his kids’ and grandkids’ activities.
George is survived by his wife, Carol of Elgin, daughter, Barb (Don) Snyder of Kearney, NE, son, Steve (Casey) Busteed of Elgin, step-son, Sam (Jennifer) Vanourney of St Joseph, MO,  step-daughter, Anna (Craig) Galle of Elkhorn, NE, grandchildren, Sean and Emma Snyder, Baylee, Kyndal, and Garrett Busteed, step-grandchildren, Ronald Vanourney, Trevor, Brooks, Eva and Mia Galle, sisters, Marlene (Jim) Brown of Menifee, CA, and Pam (Bill) Kuester of Neligh, NE, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Lois.
