Flyers End Crusaders’ Season 52 to 20

HUMPHREY — Eight turnovers proved to be too much for the Pope John Crusaders to overcome Tuesday night as Humphrey St. Francis claimed a 52 to 20 victory.

By virtue of the victory, the Flyers will advance to the semi-finals where they will face Ewing. That game will be played Monday night at Ewing.

The Crusaders fell behind 20 to 0 in the second quarter before Beau Henn caught a screen pass and rambled 28 yards for a touchdown.

Pope John added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Curtis Childers connected with senior Jeff Starman for a 60-yard touchdown pass, Dylan Heithoff added the two-point conversion. Austin Kerkman scored Pope John’s last touchdown on a four-yard run.

Pope John was the first team this season to score more than one touchdown against the Flyers. The Crusaders finish the season with a 7-4 record under first-year coach Brad Cornell.
