With a big block from Paiton Hoefer (7), Cale Kinney scored on a 28-yard run in the third quarter.

ELGIN — Building a 40-point lead at halftime, Elgin Public-Pope John left no doubt who was the better team on the field as they defeated Chambers/Wheeler Central 47 to 20.

Senior Paiton Hoefer ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more scores, all in the first half, as the Wolfpack controlled the action on both sides of the ball.

“They (CWC) play hard-nosed football,” Coach Greg Wemhoff said, “they played their hearts out … I thought we played really well today.” On defense, Wemhoff said Coach Kyle Kallhoff had the Wolfpack in the right spots and they made some plays. “It was a pretty complete game for us to play,” he added.

Elgin got on the scoreboard on their first possession when Paiton Hoefer skirted down the sideline for a 33-yard touchdown. To read all about the game time action, turn to this week’s Elgin Review.
