ELGIN — Thursday night was not a good night to be a Lady Spartan.
Elgin Public-Pope John arguably played a stretch of the match at such a high level, Boyd County had no chance.
The Wolfpack swept the match 25-20, 25-15 and 25-18 in the home opener for the team.
Coach Jordynn Luettel said the senior girls talked to their teammates prior to the match, re-focused the Wolfpack on what’s needed to get where they hope to go by the end of the season.
“Our seniors sat down yesterday before practice and pulled everyone in the locker room. They said we‘ve got to zone into practice. We‘ve got to make sure we level up our game when we get back to playing how we did coming into our jamboree game. Our leadership has taken it to another level,” Luettel said. “Our serve receive was on so we could use all of our front row. We‘ve been really working our middles to get more consistency and gain that confidence. They executed so well tonight.”
Nowhere was that more evident than during a stretch of the second set where, no matter what Boyd County tried to do, the Wolfpack had an answer.
