EPPJ finishes strong at Palmer

PALMER — It was a tale of two halves, one good and one not so good.

Yet, in the end, the Wolfpack captured their third victory of the season in runaway fashion – Wolfpack 51, Palmer 28.

The Wolfpack kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and poor execution in the first half and led just 21 to 14 against a winless Tigers (0-7).

“We did good things, but it seems like every drive we’d have a dumb penalty or a dumb personal foul after that fact that would just kill drives,” Co-Coach Nick Heithoff said about the first half.

“I kinda got after the kids a little bit in the second half because I wasn’t pleased with the first half.”

EPPJ finished the game with five penalties for 75 yards.

In the second half, the Wolfpack took control of the game. Up 27 to 20 entering the fourth quarter, EPPJ scored 24 unanswered point to build a 51 to 20 lead.

Palmer added a late score, long after the outcome of the game had been decided.

“We stuck both Evan Pelster and Ethan Hansen on the outsides and kind of ran some jet sweeps back and forth to loosen (the defense) up and it worked,” Heithoff said. “.

Junior Max Henn turned in a standout performance on both sides of the ball. His stat line included a team-high 15 tackles, two interceptions, two touchdown receptions (both in the first half) to help lead the way to victory.

Pelster also had a strong night. He scored three touchdowns, rushed for 144 yards on 12 carries and, on defense, made five tackles.
