Elizabeth A. Schindler-Freese of Elgin, NE passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE at 100 years, 7 months, and 1 day of age.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, NE, with Rev. Ross Burkhalter and Rev. Owen W. Korte officiating.

Elizabeth Agnes Kerkman, daughter of Fredrick and Cecilia (Kuhl) Kerkman, was born September 10, 1911 on a farm east of Elgin, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, attended St. Boniface Catholic School thru the eighth grade, and later earned her GED from Norfolk Community College.
On February 18, 1936, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Adolph Schindler at St. Boniface Church in Elgin. To this union, five children were born: John, Gale, Carol, Dave and Dan. The couple made their home on a farm four miles south and one mile east of Elgin, where they raised hogs, cattle, and farmed.
Following the death of Adolph on April 1, 1951, Elizabeth continued to live on the farm and raise their children.
On April 18, 1970, she married George Freese at St. Boniface Church in Elgin and they continued to live on the Schindler farm southeast of Elgin. George died on September 15, 1975 and Elizabeth later moved into town where she continued to live until just recently.
Elizabeth was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Church and the St. Boniface Altar Society. She served as a Circle Leader and was a past-president of the Altar Society. She also served as a Sacristan at St. Boniface Church for over 20 years.
She is survived by four children: Gale (Dolly) Schindler of Elgin, NE; Carol Mescher of Elgin, NE; Dave (Linda) Schindler of Odell, NE; Dan (Sharon) Schindler of Elgin, NE; daughter-in-law: Joan Schindler of Elgin, NE; 23 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by two husbands: Adolph in 1951 and George in 1975; one son: John Schindler; one grandson: Mark Schindler; one son-in-law: Robert Mescher; one grandson-in-law: Dave Voss; 10 siblings: Bill Kerkman, Kate Hoefer, Ted Kerkman, Sr. Gertrude Kerkman, Tony Kerkman, Theresa Wolverton, Joe Kerkman, Fritz Kerkman, August Kerkman and Margaret Kerkman in infancy.
